TV Advertisement Evaluation

TV Advertisement Evaluation

We got into our group of 4 and had a discussion about what brand from Unilever we wanted to re-brand as our advert. We decided that the best one to re-brand would be VO5 as one person in our group already uses it. The target audience for VO5 currently is young adults that care about their health and beauty. We decided to re-brand the product the active teens as we feel that teenagers don't get many adverts specifically aimed at them in general.

Survey Monkey Responses:

We collected the results on survey monkey. These are the screen shots from my 4 responses.

For Question 1: The most responses i got were from people who are aged 21-24 years old or older. I uploaded it onto Facebook which explains why the age range i got is high.

For Question 2: The target audiences my responses thought was teenagers which is correct. They should know this by the Advert as it only shows 2 teenagers doing their activities.

For Question 3: Half of my responses were in the target audience and half weren't. this shows the age range of responses i got.

For Question 4: Every person on my responses has heard of VO5 wax which makes this a good point as they might be confused on the advert to what it was.

For Question 5: Half of my responses have used the product. this shows me that half of my responses may be male.

For Question 6: My responses said they'd either buy the product or maybe buy the product. its good that none of them said they wouldn't buy the product

For Question 7: My responses agreed that the advert will encourage them to buy the product because the advert is specifically aimed at active teens.

For Question 8: Some of the comments from my 4 responses are a mixture of positive and improvements. One comment says we should show Toby's face (skateboarder) more as we show lukes face (gym) a lot more. Another comment said about nothing needed to be improved and another comment said that they haven't even seen the advert but knew what the survey was asking and got the questions right and understood what the survey was about.

I feel that all of our responses were positive and they all understood the advert and didn't get confused about the plot and meaning.

We got some feedback from the class as well so we can add more to our evaluation.
Pros:
- We had a large amount of closeups which makes the audience feel close to the people in the advert ad make them relate to whats going on.
- The way we used the VO5 to make Toby better at skating and Luke better in the gym after they used the VO5 wax.
- Well made
- Well paced
- The sound of Toby dropping in at the end sounds good because it happens straight after the music cuts out.
- The shallow depth of field at the end draws attention to the product
- Edited well
- The shots are cut to the music well
The first shot attracts attention to the audience because it sounds sinister

Cons:
- We didn't Film them putting the wax in their hair
- We need a reaction to Luke's injury by punching the bag

one female member of the class said that shed buy it as a gift for her boyfriend as shed want him to have nice hair. so females are also a secondary audience.

I think that we managed to get the main message across because we only mentioned and filmed active teenagers in the advert as that was our target audience. For the first scene we decided to use the outdoor skate park and use close ups to the board to make it more realistic and make the audience feel apart of the scene, on every time Toby would land a trick on the skateboard we would edit it onto the beat of the music. We did the same to Luke's scenes, we shot his inside the college gym and we cut the shots to the beat of the music and on the drum beat we done a strobe effect to make it go to the music.

Our final production doesn't link to our pre-production as we changed a lot of our shots and placement of where it would be in the edit as we were originally going to have three young people to focus but one pulled out so we were only left with two main young people in the advert. i am really satisfied with our final product and i am glad it turned out better than i expected it to be. my involvement in the project was pre-production, some filming a some editing. we all took turns in each role which helps us understand and have an input in our product. if i was to take the task again i would do a lot of things differently, First i would have more of an idea set before we start pre-production as we started our paperwork before we even had a final idea.
